We had great food and service was good! The breaded chicken strep appetizer (pelican fingers) was delicious. My daughter had the cheeseburger, and she said it was the best burger she had ever tasted at a restaurant! My sun had the party melt without the zip sauce abba he lived it! I love bloody Mary's and didn't care for the OG bloody Mary, as it tasted too clam juicey. However, overall, we will be back!

We love this place! It’s conveniently right off the bike path so it’s a great stop along the way on our rides. The food is outstanding! I ordered the chicken sandwich; 10/10 would recommend. Service was fast and friendly. Trivia night was a lot of fun.

Traveling through Iowa and we made a quick stop for lunch. The Pelican did not disappoint! We showed up unknowingly before they were open and they still welcomed us in! Sam was our bartender and not only was she very personable she was also very knowledgeable regarding the menu. The rest of the staff seemed very friendly as well and seemed to really enjoy their jobs. We ordered the pelican burger and the Philly and both were excellent! Definitely worth a stop if you are in West Des Moines!

We came in mid-afternoon so the place was quiet, which for us is perfect. Appetizers are 3 off during happy hour and they have lots of drink specials as well. We started off with the bone-in wings, half mild buffalo and half kickin' bourbon. They were DELICIOUS!! Wings were a good size, flavors were on point, not too hot but just enough kick. For our main, I got the grouper sandwich. Again, flavor was amazing. The breading was crisp and you could tell it's hand-breaded. My husband got the mushroom and swiss. They add a horseradish sauce that isn't overpowering but makes you think, and want more! The drink menu is extensive, as is their food menu. There are many more things we want to try so we will definitely be back. Bonus: they have a lunch punch card. After 10 lunches your next one is free. The service was excellent and the owner stopped by and chatted with us. You can tell he put his heart into this business just by the quality of the food and the ambience.

Very welcoming atmosphere! As soon as we walked in we were greeted cheerfully! Our waiter Ben awesome and his co-worker Dylan even made us feel welcome. The food came out quickly and was great. Onion rings were amazing. Can't wait to go again on a warmer day to enjoy the patio!

The sloppy joes are amazing. The chicken tenders are huge. The price for the amount you get is cheap, and the quality and taste is great. If you want to go somewhere that isn't expensive but doesn't taste cheap, this is where you go. And the service is top notch, very friendly and will remember you after 1-2 visits even if its been awhile since the last visit.

This is my 2nd time at Pelican Post, and both times have been amazing. It's a great warm season place to go for patio or indoor seating. The windows were open to let in the warm springtime fresh air. (70s in mid-March is a real treat!) The decor inside is exactly what you'd expect from a place with this name. You feel like you're at a seaside bar restaurant with some aged wood board paneling here and there, and an occasional pelican statue perched in various spots. There are plenty of TVs to watch when the conversation dies down or you're in the middle of eating any one of their delicious menu items. Our waitress stopped by several times to see if we needed anything else and to make sure our drinks were full. It's a perfect place to go for a happy hour with family and friends. The first time I visited, they had live music on the patio. I definitely would go back again!
